Poland aims to cut its dependency on coal so that by 2040 it is used to produce as little as 11 percent of the country’s energy, down from the current 70 percent, President Andrzej Duda told a climate summit on Friday. Duda was addressing world leaders on the second day of an online meeting called by US President Joe Biden to reduce global warming. Duda said his country would build a sustainable energy mix based on nuclear and renewable energy, as well as gas.
Duda vowed that his country would play an active role in world climate policy. He noted that Poland in 2018 hosted the United Nations COP24 climate change conference.

Poland and Ukraine are in talks to supply hydrogen to Central and Eastern Europe using existing pipeline infrastructure amid growing demand for cleaner fuels.
The plan comes as the two countries have resumed talks on joint energy projects as part of the European Union’s Eastern Partnership initiative, the biznesalert.pl website reported. Executives from Poland’s gas transmission company Gaz-System, state-owned refiner Lotos and gas and oil giant PGNiG were among those who took part in a recent energy workshop focusing on a „transition towards hydrogen and green gases,” the website reported.

About 400 wrestlers from 39 countries, both men and women, are competing for medals at the 2021 European Wrestling Championships, which is running in Warsaw between April 19th to 25th.
Poland are doing well in the competition, with Roksana Zasina winning the silver in the women’s 55 kg, while countrywoman Anna Łukasiak took the bronze in the 50 kg on Thursday, taking the host nation’s medal tally at the event to five. On Wednesday, Poland’s Eduard Grigoriew grabbed the bronze in the men’s 61 kg freestyle.

And finally, Radio Gdańsk yesterday hosted the 1st „Maritime Forum” debate on the subject of wind energy. Yesterday’s panel included the president of PGE Baltica, director for energy at PKN Orlen and vice president of the Polish Wind Energy Association. The event was hosted by Artur Kielbasiński.
