Seven new flower meadows are to be built around Gdańsk in the coming weeks. Totalling an area of around 3,000 square metres and comprising several dozen different plant species, the cost of the project is around PLN 48,000.
In addition to interesting visual values, enrich the ecosystem, being a place of wide biodiversity. They also contribute to increasing the level of oxygen in cities and air humidity. They provide food and shelter for useful insects – bees, butterflies, bumblebees, as well as birds and small mammals.
Meadow plants have a longer and more developed root system than grass. Thanks to this, during rains they absorb much more water, which they use in rainless periods, so they do not require watering. They do not need to be mowed regularly or fertilized. Details of the locations can be found on the Radio Gdańsk website.
