Buckingham Palace announced plans for the official state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, set to take place on Monday, the 19 September, at Westminster Abbey in London.
Earlier today, the Queen’s coffin began its journey from Balmoral Castle back to Buckingham Palace, stopping in Edinburgh at Holyroodhouse, her official Scottish residence.
The Queen’s funeral ceremony will be held a week from Monday at Westminster Abbey in London, with her final resting place at the Chapel of St. George’s Church at Windsor Castle, where her husband, Prince Philip, and her parents are also buried.
Earlier it was announced that the day of the funeral would be a national holiday in the UK.

US officials are set to commemorate the 21st anniversary of 9/11 today at various sites of the 2001 Al Quaida terrorist attacks.
US President Joe Biden will deliver remarks and lay a wreath of remembrance at the US Pentagon outside Washington, DC, while First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is due to deliver remarks at the Flight 93 National Memorial Observance in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
In New York City, the main site of the attacks, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband will attend a commemoration ceremony at the National September 11 Memorial, located at the former site of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.
The 2001 attacks resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 Americans and spurred the US and its allies, including the UK, Canada, Germany, France, and later Poland, to embark on the twenty-year War in Afghanistan.

Polish tennis phenom Iga Świątek captured her first US Open Grand Slam tennis title after defeating Ons Jabeur of Tunisia in three sets (6:2, 7:6, 7:5) in the finals in New York yesterday.
The win marks Świątek’s third Grand Slam triumph after winning the French Open in Paris in 2020 and 2022.
In remarks after the match, Świątek thanked fans for their support, saying she was „glad that I can connect people through sport” and that „tennis is becoming more and more popular in Poland.”
President Andrzej Duda called it „a great day and night for Polish athletes” in a post on Twitter yesterday, praising Świątek’s victory and the success of the Polish men’s volleyball team.

Poland beat Brazil 3:2 yesterday to book their place in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championships finals.
The Polish team won 3:2 (23:25, 25:18, 25:20, 21:25, 15:12) after a tie-break in the semi-final thriller played at Katowice’s Spodek arena.
Saturday’s match was a repetition of the last two World Cup finals. In 2014, the Polish team defeated the Brazilians 3:1 in Katowice and again beat the „Canarinhos” 3:0 four years later in 2018 in Turin.
The Polish team will face Italy today in the finals, with the match set to begin at 21:00.

The Polish men’s basketball team will face Ukraine today in the FIBA Men’s EuroBasket 2022 tournament in Prague after finishing third in the Group D qualifiers.
The Poland vs. Ukraine match is set to take place at 12:00 noon in Berlin, with both teams hoping to advance beyond the Round of 16.
The EuroBasket 2022 tournament is set to wrap up September 18.

The international employment agency Gremi Personal invites Poles and Ukrainians, as well as their families, to celebrate Borscht Day in Gdańsk.
The event will take place from 11:00 to 15:00 today in the park located near 11 Świętej Barbary street. Visitors can purchase Ukrainian souvenirs, enter a lottery to win prizes, and sample Ukrainian borscht, fresh-baked bread, and kvass for a symbolic 1 złoty.
All funds collected by the agency will be used to purchase medical supplies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
