NATO and Polish troops have been taking part in battle readiness exercises in northern Poland this week.
Speaking to troops before the exercises commenced, the Polish defence minister said that NATO’s Griffin Shock exercise was sending „a strong message to Russia” not to „attack NATO territory”.
The exercise marks the first time in NATO history that the head of the alliance’s Multinational Division North East assumed command of a US Army unit. The minister told reporters: “We are tremendously uplifted by the interoperability, cooperation and reliability of allied forces. It’s a sign of our unity, the unity of the North-Atlantic alliance”.
Taking place from May 8 to 26, the Griffin Shock exercise features more than 3,000 service members from five NATO nations as well as several hundred vehicles, according to officials.

Poland will soon be wealthier than the UK, according to a leading UK financier. Guy Hands, a renowned serial entrepreneur, said that if the UK maintains its weakened relationship with the European Union, it is destined to be poorer on a relative basis than the bloc.
Hands laid the blame of the UK’s decline on Brexit. In February, the leader of the UK’s labour party also noted that Poland was on track to become richer than the UK. He said that “the British people are falling behind while our European neighbours get richer in the east, as well as in countries like France and Germany”.
He added: „I’m not comfortable with that, not comfortable with a trajectory that will soon see Britain overtaken by Poland”.
Labour Party projections suggest that if the current growth rates persist, Poland will overtake the UK in terms of economic prosperity by 2030.
