Polish President Andrzej Duda made an official visit to Kyiv yesterday to discuss further assistance to Ukraine with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Polish president was also expected to discuss „the current situation on the front lines” as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine moves into its 17th month, including „the threat of a Russian attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.”
Duda’s visit comes as Ukrainian civilians face daily threats of missile and drone strikes. Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that eight people, including three children, had died as a result of a missile strike on a restaurant in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk on Tuesday evening. A further 56 people, including an eight-month-old child, suffered injuries. Russia also shelled Ukraine’s southern Kherson region overnight, striking 12 times with a total of 49 shells and injuring three people, according to Ukrainian state broadcaster Suspilne.

The first batch of 14 Abrams main battle tanks from the United States arrived by ship in the northern Polish port of Szczecin on Wednesday. Poland had ordered 116 modernized M1A1 Abrams tanks and 250 state-of-the-art M1A2 Abrams tanks from the US in an effort to bolster its army in response to Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine.
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak attended the unloading of the American tanks in Szczecin, telling those gathered that the event „shows the strength of the Polish-American alliance that strengthens the security of Poland, but also of the entire eastern flank of NATO and the whole free world.”

The swift actions of local law enforcement officers successfully prevented a potential clash between rival football hooligans from Gdynia and Rzeszów.
According to Senior Sergeant Piotr Pawłowski of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Gdańsk, multiple police units collaborated to thwart the so-called „ustawka.”
Authorities identified the „fans” of the Rzeszów football club and then determined where they would be staying the night before the planned confrontation. Upon checking their luggage, police discovered a collection of suspicious equipment, including boxing gloves and mouthguards.
At the same time, police authorities in Gdynia were also monitoring three cars of Arka fans that reportedly intended to rendezvous with the other „pseudokibice.” The incident ended with police supervising the return of the Rzeszów group back to Podkarpacie.

Polish tennis star Iga Świątek has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Bad Homburg Open in Germany after a straight-set win yesterday over Jil Teichmann of Switzerland.
Świątek dominated the 129th-ranked Swiss player 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 20 minutes in the second round of the women’s singles competition of the grass-court tennis tournament. Świątek will now face Russia’s Anna Blinkova today at 5:30 CEST for a place in the semifinals.

The 51st annual „Bazuna” National Tourist Student Song Review competition kicks off tomorrow, bringing together lovers of tourist songs in one of Poland’s oldest and longest-running cultural competitions.
Operating continuously since 1971, „Bazuna” features a song contest with more than twenty individual performers and bands vying to become the next potential hit. Prizes are awarded for Best Performer (soloist or band), Rally Song of the Year, Best Interpretation of a Well-Known Song, and an Audience Award.
This year’s edition of Bazuna will be held in the amphitheater of the Municipal Cultural Center in the town of Sulęczyno from June 30 to July 2, 2023. Admission to the event is free. Detailed information and the rules of the competition are available >>>HERE.
