Polish companies are well positioned to win new export markets amid the coronavirus pandemic, the country’s prime minister told reporters on Friday. During a disruption in the global economy, Polish producers have shown themselves to be flexible and able to quickly adapt to new conditions, Mateusz Morawiecki said. He said a day earlier that the economy had “stabilized” and that the number of businesses planning to lay off employees amid the coronavirus pandemic had dropped markedly. The prime minister told reporters earlier in the week that Poland was eyeing a stronger role for itself in the global economy once the world emerges from the COVID-19 gloom.

And finally, a stone baroque sculpture from the 18th century, depicting a Roman legionary has been discovered during archaeological works at a former meat processing plant in Gdańsk. The sculpture, which is about 270 years old, was discovered by archaeologists during demolition work at former meat factories on the banks of the Motława river in Gdańsk old town. The stone figure will now undergo detailed research. The archaeologist whose team discovered the sculpture says that it probably comes from a local workshop and may once have decorated the garden of an affluent city resident.
