Radio Gdansk News in English: Justice minister orders probe after two Poles in Mexico had organs cut out

Poland’s justice minister said on Thursday he has ordered a probe amid reports that two young Poles who went to Mexico in search of work had their internal organs cut out.

Polish website Onet.pl reported that the two men had their kidneys and other organs removed after travelling to Mexico earlier this month. One of the men died and the other is in hospital. The foreign ministry in Warsaw said the condition of the man in hospital was improving. The ministry told reporters that a Polish consul was in „constant contact” with the families of the two men and with Mexican prosecutors investigating the case.

Temperatures reach record high in Poland

Temperatures hit a record for February in some areas of Poland on Thursday amid an unseasonably warm spell. The mercury climbed to 22.1 degrees Celsius in the southern town of Maków Podhalański, the highest reading ever seen in the country in the second month of the year. Thursday also saw a local record for February set in Warsaw, where thermometers showed 18.1 degrees C. The warm weather comes hot on the heels of an unusually cold spell that saw double-digit sub-zero temperatures earlier this month. Some experts have said that the drastic change in temperatures over such a short period of time is a result of climate change.
