Radio Gdansk News in English: Republicans slam Biden over Nord Stream 2 sanction waivers

Republican lawmakers in the United States have slammed the Biden administration’s decision to waive sanctions on the company overseeing the construction of Russia’s contested Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Germany.
Joe Biden’s administration has waived sanctions on Nord Stream 2 AG, the company behind the undersea gas pipeline, and its CEO Matthias Warnig, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Wednesday.

A State Department report sent to Congress concluded that Nord Stream 2 AG and Warnig, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, engaged in sanction-able activity, Reuters reported. But Blinken immediately waived those sanctions, saying that it was in the US national interest.

Poles on electric scooters have to use bicycle lanes wherever these are available under new rules that came into force on Thursday.

People riding e-scooters and other similar electric devices have to give way to pedestrians, travel at a speed similar to people on foot, and no faster than 20 kilometres per hour. If there is no bicycle path, e-scooters have to travel on the road – if the speed limit on such a street is less than 30 kph. E-scooters are allowed to use the pavement only if the speed limit on a road alongside is over 30 kph and there is no bike path to hand.

Demand for blood is growing in medical centres across Poland as hospitals have started scheduling operations that were delayed by the COVID epidemic. Meanwhile, the easing of a swathe of coronavirus restrictions on daily life has caused a rise in road accidents, public broadcaster Polish Radio reported.

At the same time, regular blood donors are starting to head off on their summer vacations. The director of the National Blood Centre has said that it is not possible to stock up for the holiday season, when there is usually a shortage of supplies, because the same amount of blood is being given out to patients as is being supplied by donors.
