Radio Gdansk News in English: Polish Prime Minister hails new PepsiCo project

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has hailed the announcement of a new investment in Poland by the American food industry giant PepsiCo. The Prime Minister added that his country has earned the trust of American companies with its „best possible investment climate”. The project, whose cornerstone was laid in a village in the south-west of the country on Thursday is worth PLN 1 billion and will become a snack-making facility when it is completed in 2025. The plant will create 450 jobs and churn out products for over 20 European markets, according to executives. Morawiecki told reporters that „attracting such a renowned name” to Poland proved that US investors trusted the country.

Polish President Andrzej Duda has sent his condolences to President Biden and the American people in the aftermath of the ISIS suicide bombing in Afghanistan’s Kabul this week.

The deadly attack, the deadliest incident for American troops in Afghanistan in a decade, killed 13 US service members and at least 90 Afghans in the wake of the US chaotic exit from the country. Duda posted the message on his website yesterday. He wrote, „Allow me to express, on behalf of the Polish nation, my deepest sorrow and sincerest condolences on the devastating loss of life suffered by the American people following the heinous terrorist attacks on Kabul airport in Afghanistan.”

A legendary Polish airforce Spitfire aircraft built and flown during World War II has returned to its wartime home for an historic flight.

The airplane flew to Blackpool airfeld on the North West coast of England where it was based during the War and was used to protect vital supply convoys crossing the Atlantic and coming into Liverpool Docks as well as deterring Luftwaffe raids on key industrial targets in the North-West of England. The aircraft is owned and operated by the „Polish Heritage Flight”, as part of the Historic Aircraft Collection based at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford in South East England.

And finally, food lovers in the Three Cities will be able to sample delights of pierogis from around the world this weekend, during the World Pierogi fair taking place in Sopot.

Pierogis which are a famous Polish cuisine, are filled dumplings made by wrapping unleavened dough around a savoury or sweet filling and cooking in boiling water. They are often then pan-fried before serving. This weekend’s fair promises to serve up all kinds of the delicious treat, from meat, vegetables, Korean, Japanese, steamed and baked. The festival is being held until Sunday at the Zdrojowy Square in Sopot.
