The spokesman represents the security services chief. Since September, Poland’s Border Guard has recorded over 5,000 attempts to illegally cross the border. On Friday one person died of a heart attack while entering Poland. The man, part of a group of Iraqis trying to enter the country was apprehended by the Polish Border Guard on Polish soil. A number of other migrants have also died in recent days. The EU has weighed into the crisis, pushing Poland to accept support from its Frontex frontier force.

The head of Poland’ s famous „Solidarity” trade union has said it is ready to step up its action against a decision by the EU’s top court over a disputed coal mine in Poland. Poland has been forced to pay 500,000 Euros per day to the European Commission in a recent ruling by the European Union’s Court of Justice for not stopping production at a crucial coal mine near Poland’s border with the Czech Republic.
The trade union also believes that the EU may have broken the law with its latest ruling. Poland’s prime minister has said that the mine and the accompanying power plant guarantee the supply of electricity to millions of people as well as schools and hospitals and that the government would not all the ruling to risk the health and lives of the Polish people.
