More Belarus border 'provocations’ amid migrant crisis | Poland reopens field hospital in Warsaw as COVID-19 resurges | Warsaw Philharmonic marks 120th anniversary | Gdynia hospital introduces new non-invasive surgery procedure

Poland’s defence ministry has accused Belarusian authorities of further inflaming the already tense situation on the border between the two countries amid the ongoing migrant crisis there. Polish authorities said that a Belarusian solder attempted to fire a flare at Polish soldiers which fortunately failed to ignite. This comes after 5 armed Belarusian men attempted to destroy part of the temporary border fence. In the earlier incident, the armed men had threatened to shoot Polish border force guards who called in backup from the Polish military at which point the Belarusian side retreated. Poland’s Interior said on Thursday that a planned protective wall on the country’s border with Belarus would be built by the middle of next year to help fend off an influx of migrants from the Middle East.

The Warsaw National Philharmonic orchestra is celebrating its 120th anniversary this weekend with two gala concerts. It is one of Poland’s oldest musical institutions. The history of the Warsaw orchestra goes back to November 5th, 1901 when it gave its inaugural concert.

Soon after the start of World War II, the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall was bombed and towards the end of the war it was reduced to rubble. The orchestra resumed its activities shortly after the war, performing in the city’s theatres and sports halls. Over the years, it has made more than 100 tours worldwide and its recordings have won many international awards.

And finally, St Vincent de Paul hospital in Gdynia has introduced a non-invasive surgical procedure for the treatment of difficult bile duct stones which avoids the need for invasive surgery to remove them.

Although the technique was pioneered in the 1950s its use has been hampered by technical difficulties until relatively recently. The technique involves introducing a small tube into the body through the mouth through which the bile duct stones can be examined and removed by surgeons.
