Polish president wants more NATO troops on its eastern flank

The Polish president has said that Poland wants NATO to move more soldiers to its eastern edge amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Andrzej Duda made the declaration at a summit of the Bucharest Nine (B9) group of countries in Bucharest, Romania, on Friday. The B9 brings together NATO members lying on the pact’s eastern flank: Poland, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia. Friday’s B9 summit was held in preparation for the NATO summit, which will take place in Madrid, Spain, later this month.

Gdansk council mulls installing posts at entrance to Old Town

And finally, Gdańsk city council is considering installing vehicular barriers at the entrances to the city’s Old Town, after a driver recently drove through Gdańsk’s famous pedestrianised Old Town in a drunken spree, injuring a number of pedestrians. The implementation of the so-called pilomats, i.e. automatic bollards that can physically limit the entry of unauthorized persons, and at the same time allow entry in a very simple way to those who can and should do it, such as the police or an ambulance service, will be discussed and voted on by the city council on June 30th. Preliminary calculations show that a total of several dozen such posts are needed
