Russia has been ostracised by much of the international community in a vote at the UN General Assembly. The resolution at the General Assembly of the United Nations, co-authored by Poland, condemned Russia’s attempted annexation of 4 regions in Ukraine.

The resolution stated that the referenda were illegal and called on Russia to withdraw its annexation declaration. The resolution was supported by 143 countries with 35 abstention. Russia and four other countries opposed the resolution: North Korea, Belarus, Syria and Nicaragua. The Polish ambassador to the UN, says that this vote represents further isolation for Russia – something he says they were very keen to avoid.

The US ambassador to Warsaw has praised Poles for helping Ukrainian refugees during the ongoing war with Russia. Poland has taken in nearly 7 million refugees fleeing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The country in March enacted a measure to offer wide-ranging support to Ukrainians, including granting them residence rights and ensuring access to education, healthcare and social benefits. Seventy-nine percent of Poles are in favour of accepting refugees from war-torn Ukraine, according to a recent survey.

The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine performed at the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall yesterday. The programme included works by Jean Sibelius and Ukrainian composers, Maxim Berezovsky. Berezovsky can be considered as the „Ukrainian Mozart”.

According to programme notes, his Symphony in C major, dating from the second half of the 18th century, “was long considered lost; after it was rediscovered in the Vatican’s archives at the beginning of the twenty-first century, it was soon hailed as the ‘first Russian symphony’ … This composition is an eminent example of just how advanced Ukrainian musical practice was in the eighteenth century, while at the same time manifesting tsarist Russia’s imperialist ambitions, including in the domain of culture.” The concert will be repeated this evening at the Music Academy in Katowice, southern Poland.

And finally, a territorial volunteer army unit from Gdańsk Wrzeszcz has won an award at the „Cambrian Patrol” exercise in Wales, organized by the 160th Brecon Brigade.

The 7th Pomeranian Territorial Defense Brigade won a bronze decoration at the event attended by 127 teams from all over the world, held in the same area where the famous SAS selection training is carried out. The group had to trek for 41 hours through a mountainous terrain route carrying 35kg of equipment, plus their weapons and other kit. Along the way they were tasked with a number of challenges including a medical emergency simulation, de-mining exercise as well as dealing with simulated enemy attacks. What makes their feat even more extraordinary is that the team from Gdańsk was the only team of volunteer soldiers participating in the competition.
