Polish president holds phone call with Iranian leader

Poland’s president has spoken with his Iranian counterpart over allegations that Iran is supplying drones to Russia in its war with Ukraine. The two heads of state “discussed bilateral issues and talked about the current international situation,” Polish officials said afterwards. During the call, Poland’s President Duda “outlined a very clear stance” about reports that Iran was selling drones to Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. “Poland aims to very actively counteract any weapons purchases by Russia,” a Polish presidential official told reporters. Ukraine on Tuesday moved to cut ties with Iran in response to the allegations that Iran is supplying drones to Russia and the US has threatened sanctions against Iran.

Russia threatens to cease cooperation with the UN over drone investigation

Russia has threatened to stop co-operating with the UN in response to the UN Secretary General, António Gutteres’ investigation into Russia’s use of drones against civilian targets in Ukraine. A number of sources say that Russia has been purchasing so-called „kamikaze” drones from Iran since August to attack civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine, in violation of UN resolutions – a claim Russia denies. In response, the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Gutteres, has requested that experts visit Ukraine to investigate these allegations. The deputy Russian Ambassador to the UN, has called on Gutteres to stop „these unlawful investigations”, saying that Russia will be forced „to reassess its cooperation” with the United Nations.

Residents of Nowy Port complain of coal dust nuisance

And finally, residents of Gdańsk’s Nowy Port district are facing a nuisance of coal dust from the nearby Gdańsk port coal unloading operations which take place 24 hours a day and which force coal dust into the air, which then settles in the Nowy Port area. So far this year, almost 8 million tonnes of coal has been unloaded at the facility, with an expected 13 million tonnes expected to be processed by the end of the year, which is far above the normal amount. The coal dust is settling on cars and in people’s homes. The Environmental Protection Inspectorate has imposed orders on port authorities to take preventive actions such as damping coal and surrounding areas with water to reduce dust creation.
