Poland’s Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, has confirmed that Poland will uphold its veto on a European Union migration pact, at a summit of European Union leaders.

Speaking to reporters in Brussels on Thursday, Mateusz Morawiecki declared that his government would uphold its „strong veto” on the European Union migration pact, citing „no tolerance” for human trafficking. “There can be no tolerance for human trafficking or human smugglers,” Morawiecki said. „Protecting the external borders of the European Union is necessary due to terrorism threats,” he added. Morawiecki told reporters that warnings from Poland were now being „taken more seriously” by the European Parliament, which he said was a good sign.

Poles will set their clocks back by an hour this weekend, as daylight saving time ends.

European Union law requires all member countries to observe daylight saving time by moving clocks forward by an hour on the last Sunday of March and back by an hour on the last Sunday of October. The European Parliament in 2019 voted in favour of abandoning the practice of moving clocks back and forward by an hour. EU lawmakers decided they wanted the time changes scrapped, leaving it up to national governments to choose whether to stay on permanent summer or winter time. Almost 4 in 5 Poles are against moving clocks forward in spring and then back again in the autumn, according to a study cited by the Polish state news agency, with three-quarters of respondents opting for permanent summer time, while the remainder say they prefer to stick with winter time.
