EU Executives Propose Accession Talks with Ukraine and Moldova
The European Commission recommended that the bloc open accession negotiations for Ukraine and Moldova and to grant Georgia candidate status on Wednesday. Talks should begin once Kyiv meets the accession conditions, including countering corruption, keeping lobbying within EU standards, and strengthening national safeguards for minorities.
The negotiations are a significant geopolitical milestone for both Ukraine and the EU amid Russia’s invasion of the country. Bloc leaders are expected to reach a decision on the approval recommendation by Brussel’s in December. All 27 member states would have to agree, and according to Reuters Hungary could be a possible obstacle.
