The Government’s draft budget for next year will not produce a deficit for the first time in three decades according to unnamed sources of the Rzeczpospolita newspaper.
The report comes ahead of a meeting of Cabinet ministers to discuss next year’s budget today. A balanced budget would be the first since the fall of communism in 1989. Piotr Bujak, chief economist at PKO Bank Polski said on Twitter that a balanced budget would be the „most important achievement of macroeconomic policy in Poland for at least a decade”.

G7 world leaders agree to provide help in fighting Amazon fires
World leaders meeting at the G7 summit in France have agreed to provide logistical and financial assistance to Brazil and other South American countries involved in fighting the ongoing fires burning in the Amazon rainforest. The BBC reports that a total of 22 million dollars is to be made available immediately, mainly to fund fire-fighting aircraft. However, the support has not been well-received by Brazil’s president who has repeatedly criticised foreign involvement in the crisis saying on Twitter that the G7 were treating Brazil like a „colony” or „no-man’s land”.
Opportunities for the future of Polanka Redłowska
The President of Gdynia is to review the findings of a public consultation on the future development of the Polanka Redłowska area in Gdynia. The area, located on the seaside next to the Arka Tennis Club, is currently undeveloped save for a carpark. Earlier this year, a public consultation invited ideas for alternatives after plans to build a new hotel on the site were largely met with disapproval from the public. The alternative suggestions include an amphitheatre with green spaces, a water playpark, and an all-year swimming pool with a removable roof. The city president is expected to review the proposals over September before announcing a decision later on.
