A 79-year-old woman has narrowly avoided becoming a victim to scammers after a vigilant taxi driver realised that the she was about to withdraw money from an ATM after being conned by fraudsters who had pretended to be the police. The driver convinced the woman to report the case to the actual police instead of going to the bank for money. The crooks had convinced the woman that they needed the money as part of an investigation into fraud. Local police warned older people to be vigilant and if in doubt to always check at the local police station. The perpetrators are still being sought.
