A Polish chef is being praised as a hero for being one of three people who overpowered a suspect during a terrorist attack on London Bridge this past Friday.
In videos of the event, the Polish hero, known only as Łukasz, can be seen brandishing a peculiar object – a narwhal tusk- as a weapon. The Pole was reportedly working in the nearby Fishmonger’s Hall when the attack began; he grabbed the 1.5 meter tusk off the wall as he and two others chased the man out of the building after the suspect had threatened to blow up the building.
The attacker, later identified as convicted terrorist Usman Khan, was armed with a knife and a suicide vest with fake explosives. During the attack, Khan stabbed several bystanders, two of whom later died in hospital. The suspect himself was later shot dead by police, with the jihadist Islamic State (IS) organization claiming responsbility for the attack.
Łukasz has been praised as a “real hero” on social media for his bravery and quick thinking, with journalist Piers Morgan posting on his Twitter channel that it is “worth noting this for the next time someone says, ‘we’ve let too many Eastern Europeans into this country’.”
