Poland has filed an official complaint against Germany with the European Commission over instances of the illegal importation of 35 tons of household by German firms on Polish territory.
Addressing the press in Warsaw, the Polish Climate and Environment Minister stated that this formal complaint marks the initial step in the legal proceedings that will be pursued before the Court of Justice of the European Union. According to Polish authorities, the waste in question was illicitly transported and deposited within seven landfills located within its borders, all originating from Germany. The country claims to have repeatedly engaged in communication at both state and federal levels with its western neighbour, urging the prompt removal of the unauthorized waste from Polish soil.

Poland has been allocated an additional seat in the European Parliament and will have 53 deputies after the next elections in 2024, officials have said. The European Union’s decision was announced by Poland’s Minister for European Affairs on Wednesday.
The minister said in a post on the social messaging app X, formerly known as Twitter: “Poland’s diplomatic drive in the EU, stressing the need for a proportional adjustment of the Polish representation in the European Parliament, has been effective.” He added: “A decision has been made to grant Poland an additional seat in the EP. At the next elections, the Polish people will elect 53 MEPs.”

Poland’s leading game studio Techland taken over by the Chinese tech giant Tencent. Agreed terms guarantee that Techland will retain intellectual property ownership, creative freedom and its own operations.
The exact amount paid was not disclosed, but Techland’s value was recently estimated around 2 billion euro – which would make it the biggest merger and acquisition ever in Poland. Tencent, who acquired Techland, is a Chinese media and technology giant, valued at over 400 billion euro and globally investing in companies across the board – from video and music streaming, through games to e-commerce and messaging apps.

And finally, an historic fisherman’s cottage in Gdańsk’s Jelitkowo district which suffered extensive damage after a fire a few weeks ago is to be restored according to officials.
The fire in the social housing which happened in the early hours of the morning of July 14th damaged a significant part of the roof and the living quarters were destroyed. No one in the building was injured in the incident. The property has been sealed off while police are conducting investigation into the cause and the residents have been temporarily rehoused. No date for the start of the reconstruction has yet been given.
