The Polish foreign ministry has said three staff at the Russian embassy in Warsaw have been designated personae non gratae, adding that Poland was expressing solidarity with a US decision to impose sanctions on Moscow. Russia will expel three Polish diplomats in a tit-for-tat response to Warsaw’s move, the Interfax news agency cited the deputy head of international affairs at Russia’s lower house of parliament as saying on Thursday. The Russian ambassador in Warsaw was informed of Poland’s decision after being summoned to the foreign ministry earlier in the day.

Biometric ID cards for Poles from August
The Polish parliament has passed a law on new biometric ID cards, in compliance with EU regulations demanding fingerprints on such documents. From August 2, fingerprinting will become compulsory; such prints will be stored on a microchip on ID cards. Another change introduced on new IDs is the signature of the owner and the image of two flags – one of the EU and the other of the bearer’s country of origin. However, under regulations adopted by the Polish lower house, anyone who has a valid ID card in the current form can use it until it expires.

And finally, the well known falcons who are nesting in the chimney of the PGE power station in Gdynia have hatched their first chick of the year. The pair, Bryza and Bosman, welcomed their chick on Thursday. There are three more eggs in the nest on the PGE Energia Ciepła chimney. Eleven-year-old Bosman and two years younger Bryza are peregrine falcons that settled in Gdynia. Thanks to the installed cameras, in March and April the eggs were seen to appear in the nest and the entire incubation process has been ongoing. An online competition has now been launched to find a name for the newest addition for the family. The competition can found at http://www.peregrinus.pl/en/gdynia
