Poles vaccinated for COVID-19 will not have to undergo quarantine even if they have been in contact with people infected with the highly contagious Delta variant.

The announcement was made during a press conference on Tuesday, in which officials also floated the idea of bringing in tougher COVID restrictions for people who have not been vaccinated against the virus.

According to Prime Minister Morawiecki, the government is “drawing up a list of hypothetical orders, bans, and recommendations,” which will be contingent upon vaccination levels in Poland. An official decision on potential targeted restrictions is expected to be announced later this month.

As of Wednesday, over 14.2 million people in Poland had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with over 30 million having at least one dose. According to studies from Israel, Canada, and the US, existing vaccines such as those from Pfizer/BioNTech are proving to be effective against newer COVID variants, even the highly infectious Delta type.

Six beaches in Pomerania have been declared unsuitable for swimming due to unsafe levels of cyanobacteria.

The blue-green algae occur naturally in most types of water, but their increased presence during annual summer blooms can cause adverse reactions and health issues for swimmers. Beaches on the Hel peninsula, including ones in Hel, Chałupy, Jurata, and Jastarnia, were closed as of Wednesday afternoon due to the presence of cyanobacteria blooms.

Updated info on water quality and beach closures can be found by visiting the “Serwis Kąpieliskowy” section of the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate’s website at https://sk.gis.gov.pl/index.php/kapieliska.
