Conservative leaders discuss EU reform in Warsaw | OECD raises GDP growth forecasts for Poland | Drifting Russian cargo ship apprehended close to Tricity beaches | Santa Clauses on motorbikes will travel through the Tri-City today

A group of conservative and right leaning party leaders from across the EU have met this weekend in Warsaw for a summit to discuss ways to reform the 27 nation bloc. The main topic of discussion among the 13 delegates was how to resist attempts by some to turn the EU into a super-state. The meeting, hosted by Jarosław Kaczyński, head of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party, aimed to explore possible team-ups at the EU level, including an alliance within the European Parliament. Kaczyński said that the current direction of the EU threatened to „bring about the rejection of the sovereignty of individual member states” saying that it was not good news for Europe or the future of the EU.

In good news for the Polish economy, the OECD has revised up Poland’s GDP forecast for 2021 from 3.7 percent to 5.3 percent.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development is an intergovernmental economic organisation with 38 member countries, founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade. It also revised Poland’s 2022 growth upwards from 4.7 percent to 5.2 percent. Gross Domestic Product is the dollar value of all goods and services that have changed hands throughout an economy. Increasing GDP is a sign of economic strength, and negative GDP indicates economic weakness.
