Poland is a safe place for US companies to invest money, the Polish president told US executives yesterday, despite the war in neighbouring Ukraine.

During a speech to business leaders from the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland he also said that Poland, a large Central European country on the eastern flank of NATO, was interested in developing business ties with the United States. Duda also noted that he hosted US President Joe Biden in Warsaw at the end of last week, while several high-ranking American officials also visited Poland recently. Duda added that being a NATO member gave Poland additional protection under the rules of the alliance. The United States is currently Poland’s ninth-biggest trade partner and third-largest among non-EU countries.

The US Pentagon has denied that it is training Ukrainian troops in Poland, after the US President Joe Biden appeared to say that US troops are training their Ukrainian counterparts.

Speaking on Tuesday at a news conference, the spokesman said that US troops were not training Ukrainian soldiers in Poland „in the classic sense,” but were „liaising” with them as they handed over weapons. He did not provide details on what exactly the interactions entailed or how long they usually lasted. Biden is known for making gaffes and mistakes which often lead his administration to clarify US policy and he has raised eyebrows and concerns about his mental acuity with a series off-script gaffes and appearing confused and incoherent during his public appearances. A majority of Americans believe the president lacks the „mental sharpness” to be president.

The Polish Border guard on the border between Belarus and Poland have accused the Belarusian services of trying to hinder the construction of the border wall between the two countries by sabotaging equipment on the Polish side.

A spokeswoman for the Border Guard cited an example where PLN 30,000 of damage was done to equipment and elements of the wall structure were also damaged. She said that the damage is not affecting the pace of the work. The wall is due to be finished by the end of June.

We report from the Polsat Plus Arena in Gdańsk where there is a tent setup for refugees.

Every day, about a thousand refugees come to the tent for help. People coming to the tent need food and personal hygiene products. Unfortunately, the number of gifts donated by residents is decreasing, and the needs are still very large. At the moment, food for adults and children is the most lacking. A spokesperson said they need buckwheat, rice, pasta, jars of sauces, but also personal hygiene items, such as toothbrushes and toothpaste.
