A beatification Mass service has been held in Markowa for the Ulma family murdered by Nazis for hiding Jews during World War Two. This was the first time an entire family has been beatified, a great honour and a step towards sainthood.

Today marks the 43rd anniversary of the signing of the historic Gdańsk Agreement, which ended the August ’80 strikes and created the first independent trade union in the communist Eastern bloc.

Polish authorities have smashed a pro-Russian spy network operating in the country, according to the Washington Post. The network aimed to disrupt weapons shipments to Ukraine, with tactics such as sabotaging the rail infrastructure.

A Russian naval vessel fired warning shots yesterday at a cargo ship in the southwestern Black Sea and later inspected the vessel. The incident marks the first known use of warning shots by Russia against a commercial ship operating outside of Ukraine since Moscow’s withdrawal from a landmark UN-brokered grain deal.

Polish forces are being put on alert after up to 10,000 Wagner fighters from Russia are known to be stationed in Belarus and they may shortly be deployed to the Polish border, officials have warned.
