Poland is set to send an official diplomatic note to Germany demanding World War II reparations within weeks.
A spokesman for the government said in an interview, “It has been decided at a cabinet meeting. (The) Foreign Minister received a direct instruction to draw up a diplomatic note. I believe it is a matter of weeks” he said.
Last week, Poland published a report estimating the country’s World War II losses at the hands of Germany at EUR 1.3 trillion. The leader of the country’s ruling conservatives Law and Justice, Jarosław Kaczyński, said that a decision had been made to raise the issue of World War II reparations with Berlin. .

Five of the world’s art masterpieces have gone on display in Warsaw this week. The showcase brings together some outstanding paintings from London’s Dulwich Picture Gallery, never before seen in Poland.
The five artworks are: Portrait of a Lady by Peter Paul Rubens, Madonna and Child by Anthony van Dyck, Peasants Conversing by David Teniers the Younger, The Judgement of Paris by Adriaen van der Werff and Soldiers Playing Dice by Salvatore Rosa.
What they have in common, apart from being regarded as masterpieces of 17th and 18th century European painting, is that all were bought in the late 18th century for the extensive collection of the then Polish King Stanislaus II Augustus.

Poland’s world No. 1 Iga Świątek has advanced into the final of the women’s singles competition at the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in New York.
The 21-year-old Pole defeated the sixth seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 3:6, 6:1, 6:4 in their semi-final match at Flushing Meadows on Thursday. Poland’s world No. 1 will now face the fifth seed, Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, in her first-ever US Open final on Saturday, September 10th.

Construction of a new factory by battery manufacturer Northvolt in Gdańsk has reached the halfway stage.
It will be the biggest such facility in Europe with a size of 50,000 square metres and an initial annual manufacturing output of 5 GWh, and a potential future capacity of 12 GWh. The plant is set to go live next year and will employ 200 or so people to complement the already 170 staff who are employed at the site in Gdańsk’s Rudniki district.
