Ukrainian air defenses were hard at work again last night, shooting down more than 40 enemy targets over Kyiv and the Kyiv region in another attack by Russian missiles and drones.
It was the 15th attack on the Ukrainian capital since the start of May, with officials from the Kyiv City Military Administration reporting only minor damages and no injuries or fatalities as of this morning.
A previous attack the night before resulted in the death of one person in Kyiv and injuries to two others. Drone fragments also damaged apartment blocks, industrial warehouses, and public facilities, and destroyed some cars. In Zhytomyr, west of Kyiv, 26 residential houses, schools, and clinics were reportedly damaged by shrapnel from the attacks. Sources quoted by Reuters speculate that Moscow is intensifying its attacks ahead of a planned counter-offensive by Ukrainian troops.

In response to increasing attacks by Russia using Iranian-made drones, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a bill to impose sanctions on Iran for 50 years.
On Sunday, Zelensky’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak said that the proposal was made in response to Tehran continuing to supply weapons to Moscow. According to Kyiv and its allies, the arms shipments, including drones, are said to have started after Russia invaded Ukraine last year. Iran has denied the accusations.
Zelensky’s proposed legislation would block Iranian goods from passing through Ukraine, prohibit the use of Ukrainian airspace, and implement restrictions on the trade, financial, and technology sectors.

Recently released data from the European Statistical Office shows Poland as one of the top countries in the EU for low rates of youth unemployment.
According to Eurostat data, Poland was one of five European Union countries where unemployment among people aged 15 to 29 was below 4 percent in 2022.
Other countries with low youth unemployment rates include the neighboring Czech Republic (2%), Germany and Bulgaria (3.3% each), and Hungary, with the same rate (3.5%) as Poland. At the other end of the scale are Spain (11.2%), Greece (10.6%), and Sweden (10.3%).
Across the EU, over 4.48 million young people aged 15 to 29 were unemployed last year, roughly 6.3% of the entire population in that age demographic.
Compared with data from 2021, the share of unemployed youth in the total population decreased in most EU countries, with 2022 boasting the lowest rate of youth unemployment since 2009, when rates across the EU averaged 9 percent.

Polish tennis players Magdalena Fręch and Hubert Hurkacz have made it through to the second round of the French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in Paris.
World No. 21 Magda Linette crashed out of the tournament yesterday after being overpowered by Leylah Fernandez in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 3-6) in the first round of the women’s singles. Hurkacz and Linette are set to face their next opponents on Wednesday.
World No. 1 Iga Świątek is expected to step on the court tomorrow when she will face Moldovan-born Spanish player Cristina Bucșa. She is looking to win her third straight title at the French Open, which runs until June 12.

City officials are warning drivers and local residents of traffic delays due to planned road construction in Sopot and Gdańsk. The junction of Sempołowska Street and Królikarnia Street in Gdańsk Dolne Miasto will be closed starting today, with further plans to narrow Sempołowska Street near the intersection. Pedestrian access will be maintained during construction, and officials expect the new traffic arrangement to be in effect until at least the end of June.
In Sopot, a section of road from the railway tunnel to Aleja Niepodległości will be closed to traffic due to ongoing reconstruction on Kolejowa and Bohaterów Monte Cassino.
According to Sopot ZDiZ, drivers coming from Gdańsk are recommended to use detours along 3 Maj, Kościuszko and Chopin streets, while drivers coming from Gdynia are advised to use Haffner, Goyka, Powstańców Warszawy, or Chopina to avoid construction delays.
