Poland’s president has stated his country’s desire for a „just energy transition” that places human needs at its centre, as he addressed the United Nations’ COP 28 climate summit in the United Arab Emirates on Friday.
Delivering his speech in the Emirati city of Dubai, Andrzej Duda said that the human dimension „gives meaning to the climate change response” and so people and their needs „have to be at the forefront of energy and emission transformation.” The president called for a „just” energy transition that does not „undermine quality of life.” He highlighted the expansion of solar and wind energy in Poland „in line with global climate goals.”
The 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) runs until December 12th.

Polish MPs are set to elect Donald Tusk as the country’s next prime minister on December 11th, the Polish parliamentary Speaker confirmed after a meeting with the prime ministerial candidate on Friday.
Szymon Hołownia was speaking at a joint news conference with Tusk, after the two held talks earlier in the day.
Earlier on December 11, conservative Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is set to deliver a policy speech in parliament, followed by a floor debate and a vote of confidence at around 3 p.m.
Morawiecki was reappointed prime minister by President Andrzej Duda last week, but his conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party lacks a majority in the new parliament.
Morawiecki’s right-wing Law and Justice party won Poland’s October 15th election but lost its parliamentary majority and looks unlikely to stay in power for a third consecutive term.

The historic city of Kraków in southern Poland and Spain’s Valencia have been voted the UK’s favourite European city break destinations.
In an annual consumers’ Which? survey, each of the 31 popular cities was rated out of five on seven criteria: food and drink, accommodation, cultural sights and attractions, shopping, ease of getting around, lack of crowds and value for money.
An overall customer score was calculated based on overall satisfaction and likeliness to recommend. Kraków and Valencia shared the top place with their 92 percent scores.

And finally, after two years of renovation, the railway station in Gdańsk Wrzeszcz has been re-opened to passengers and the public.
Inside the new, glass facility there is a hall with a waiting room and ticket offices. The new building also houses toilets and service premises. The investment worth PLN 13 million lasted one year longer than originally planned.
The Wrzeszcz station is one of the busiest in Poland. In 2022, almost 11 million passengers used it. In the ranking of the Office of Rail Transport, only Gdańsk Główny is higher in Pomerania.
