Poland’s conservative prime minister has said that his new Cabinet has a „20 to 30 percent” chance of receiving a vote of confidence from parliament next week. Mateusz Morawiecki made the statement at a news conference in Warsaw on Monday.
The prime minister told reporters that he would not „give names” of MPs with whom he was discussing support for his new government, as „they asked for confidentiality.” Morawiecki said the new Cabinet had already prepared „several policies for citizens,” including a zero VAT rate on food, seniority pensions and a freeze on energy prices. Donald Tusk, a former top EU official and prime minister of Poland between 2007 and 2014, told reporters on Friday that he expected to be elected as Poland’s next prime minister on December 11th.

Polish firms plan to significantly increase their Christmas bonuses and other holiday benefits for employees this year, according to a study.
Some 51 percent of employers nationwide plan to offer Christmas bonuses, a 6-percent increase compared to last year, a recent study by the Randstad Research Institute has revealed.
Additionally, 48 percent of companies intend to organize corporate Christmas Eve celebrations, marking a 5-percent rise, according to the study. The growing trend in holiday bonuses reflects a broader effort by Polish companies to support their employees during economically challenging times, experts say.
While consumer confidence indicators for 2024 appear to be growing, Poland is only just coming out of a prolonged period of high inflation.

Polish speedway icon Bartosz Zmarzlik, who won his fourth world championship earlier this year, was honoured at a prestigious awards ceremony in Liverpool over the weekend.
Zmarzlik collected his fourth Speedway GP World Championship gold medal in five years during the ceremony, which was attended by 700 guests from around the world.
Speedway has a massive fan base in the country, and Zmarzlik was in January named as the runner-up Polish athlete of the year for 2022 following a public vote, finishing narrowly behind tennis ace Iga Świątek and ahead of soccer star Robert Lewandowski.

And finally, Gdańsk city guard have reminded residents of the city of their obligations for clearing snow and ice over the winter period.
Residents whose properties border public highways and footpaths are responsible for clearing snow and removing slipperiness from the sidewalk. They are also responsible for removing icicles and snow overhangs that could pose a threat to the health or life of passers-by.
Not removing snow can attract a fine of PLN 100 and if someone injures themselves there is the prospect of a civil negligence case which can then cost many thousands of zloty in damages. Not clearing icicles can attract a fine of up to PLN 500. According to the regulations, snow must be removed by 8:00 a.m. or within six hours after it stops snowing.
