If none of the candidates wins more than 50 percent the vote, under Polish election rules, a second round will be held two weeks later, on July 12th. Under a set of rules approved by parliament and signed into law earlier this month, the election will be conducted via a mixed system of postal and traditional in-person voting. Polling stations will open at 7 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. on Sunday.

The driver of a bus that plunged off an overpass in Warsaw, killing one person and injuring over 20, had taken drugs, Polish media reported on Friday. The results of a blood test received by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw confirmed the presence of amphetamine.

The driver was earlier detained. Over 20 people were injured, five of them seriously, in the accident on Thursday on an overpass in the Northern part of the Polish capital. Forty people had been aboard the bus at the time.

A Polish project to produce an electric car will unveil the prototypes of a hatchback and an SUV on July 28th, an official has said. The CEO of ElectroMobility Poland, the company coordinating the project, said: „This is a very important moment… We will announce the name of the marque and show the prototypes” he said.

The presentation on July 28th will be held online with production due to start in 2023. At the end of 2018, international decision makers gathered at a UN climate conference in southern Poland adopted a Polish-drafted declaration calling on countries worldwide to increase the role of eco-friendly electric transport. The Polish prime minister said at the time that his country aimed to pour at least 3 billion euros into electromobility over the next 10 years.

And finally, A group of scouts and navy sailors have banded together to renovate an orphanage in Gdynia. The care home near Klif in Gdynia, has been open since 2011 and is home to 14 children.

The volunteers from the 143rd Gdynia scout group and Naval Hydrographic Security Squadron in Gdynia were only supposed to assemble some furniture there, but when they saw that the property was also in need of some TLC they decided to go the extra mile, renovating the entire property. They sanded, painted and even replaced some of the flooring and electrical repairs with the support of a local interior design company. A representative of the volunteers said they were only too happy to help such a worthy cause, while the director of Children’s Homes at the Gdańsk Foundation for Social Innovation said they were very grateful for the wonderful involvement of all the volunteers.
