A US armoured battalion will conduct an emergency deployment exercise in north-western Poland, according to the Polish defence ministry. As part of the Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise, run by the US Defense Department, an armoured unit will be deployed to Poland to test the US army’s capacity for a quick military response. Over 500 American soldiers will participate in the exercise, along with Polish and German troops, serving as mission command and providing exercise control respectively. The drills at the Drawsko training ground will provide another opportunity to strengthen military cooperation between Poland and the United States, according to the defence ministry. The Polish defence ministry said that precautions would be taken to protect the soldiers and local community from potential COVID-19 infection. The exercises will start on July 14 and end on August 23.

Polish star Robert Lewandowski has been voted best player of the 2019/20 season by Germany’s union of professional football players. It is the fourth such accolade for the Polish goal machine, who plays for Germany’s Bayern Munich club. Lewandowski received just over 40 percent of the vote, far ahead of second-placed Englishman Jadon Sancho, who garnered 13.9 percent. Lewandowski was last month crowned the top scorer of Germany’s Bundesliga premier league in the 2019/2020 season, his fifth such trophy since he began playing in Germany in 2010. The Poland international was earlier in June named the Bundesliga’s player of the season in a poll conducted by the German top flight’s official website.
