Poland’s counter-intelligence service has detained a man suspected of spying for Russia, an official said on Thursday. The suspect, who denies spying, faces up to 10 years in jail a spokesman for Poland’s security services chief said. The man is suspected of attempting to approach Polish and foreign politicians, including those working in the European Parliament while working for the Russian intelligence services in Poland, EU Member States and elsewhere. A search of the man’s place of residence revealed a large amount of money and data carriers. The suspect was detained on May 31st and has been remanded in custody for three months.

Poland on Thursday announced a further easing of coronavirus restrictions amid falling new infections, with more people to be allowed into churches, trade fairs, conferences, concerts and hotels.
From Sunday, churches in the country will be allowed to be half full. From June 26, sports facilities will be allowed to open at half capacity for sports events and concerts. On the same date, trade fairs and conferences will be permitted to admit more visitors. Hotels will be able to open at three-quarters capacity. People who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus will not count toward these limits.

Poland’s oldest citizen is celebrating her 115th birthday on Thursday. She is Tekla Juniewicz, a resident of the southern Polish city of Gliwice.
She was born in Krupsk, now in Ukraine, on June 10, 1906, and remembers the years when Poland was partitioned between three neighbouring powers. She was 12 when Poland regained her independence in 1918. Tekla was fully self-reliant and lived on her own until she was 103. She is now taken care of by her grandchildren. Poland’s second oldest citizens is Stanisław Kowalski, born on April 11, 1910.

The University of Gdańsk has installed 6 new beehives on its campus in Gdańsk Przymorze in an effort enrich the biodiversity of the area and highlight the need to protect the furry insects, which are crucial to humans.
The university plans to pack and distribute any obtained honey for advertising and educating the public. According to studies, city honey can be one of the purest honeys available as the city is free from large-scale agricultural pesticides, and the problem of possible smog only occurs in winter, when bees do not collect nectar.
