Poland’s President with special wishes to America on the 4th of July.

Polish President Andrzej Duda sent special greetings to the American people as the United States celebrate Independence Day yesterday. In his message addressed to US President Joe Biden, the Polish head of state wished him, his family and the American nation every success and prosperity, also expressing the hope of continuing close bilateral relations between the two countries. President Duda wrote that Poland and the United States enjoyed special long-standing bonds of friendship, as well as shared values, strategic partnership, alliances and brotherhood in arms.

US firm launches work to advance Poland’s nuclear energy programme.

US energy firm Westinghouse Electric Company has announced the launch of work under a grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency to progress Poland’s nuclear energy programme. The project is also one of the key elements in implementing an intergovernmental agreement between Poland and the United States to work together in developing a civil nuclear power programme, Westinghouse said in a statement. Poland in October last year signed an intergovernmental deal with the United States to work together in developing nuclear energy.

Kielce remembers victims of its 1946 pogrom.

Commemorations were held in Kielce on Sunday marking the the 75th anniversary of the pogrom of July 4th 1946 during which 42 Jews were killed and more than 40 were wounded. Polish courts later sentenced nine of the attackers to death in connection with the crimes. Just months after the official end of the Second World War, the crime prompted thousands of Jews who had survived the war to emigrate. A memorial procession passed through the areas affected by the pogrom and flowers were laid at a commemorative plague. The events were attended by Deputy Minister for Culture who also toured the exhibition dedicated to the victims of the Kielce pogrom.

Sopot students excel in 8th grade examinations.

And finally, as the results of the important 8th grade school examinations have been released by the Central Examination Commission, students in Sopot have come top of the league tables for the Pomerania region again. This year’s success is particularly notable due to the achievement of the highest average scores despite the pandemic. The 8th grade exam is an important milestone in the life of Polish students as it marks the transition between the primary school system and the next stage of education.
