The Polish Air Force is set to evacuate up to 300 Afghans who helped the NATO alliance in tasks such as interpreting as the Taliban rulers continue their iron rule of the country. Writing in a Facebook post, the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote, that the evacuation was agreed during a conversation with the head of NATO. He added, „First we will bring them to Poland and then we will transport them to other NATO countries”. By yesterday morning, the third plane of evacuees destined for Poland landed in Warsaw. The Taliban dramatically swept back in to power after the US and its allies recently pulled out of Afganistan. The US has been accused in some quarters of abandoning the Afghan people and engaging in a failed 20 year “nation building” exercise.

The Australian news website ABC News has reported that conspiracies theories in the country are rife, surrounding the recent delivery of 1 million surplus covid vaccines from Poland. The website reports that there are conspiracy theories running wild on the web that question why Poland would send covid vaccines to the country when there are still many people in Poland who are not vaccinated. Other theories argue that the vaccines, and I quote, “Out of date Polish vaccines that fell off the back of a truck”. A fact check exercise revealed that the vaccines arriving from Poland had been manufactured in Belgium and had an expiry date of November 30, 2021.

Poland is the second largest beer producer in Europe according to the Emerging Europe website. Coming behind Germany and in front of the UK, Poland produced around 4 billion litres of beer in 2019. While it may comes as a surprise to many that a country more associated with vodka than beer produces so much beer, it is long known in the industry that Poland has been and remains one of the top beer producers in Europe. The beer producing industry is also strongly supported by the Polish consumer – Poles drink around 3.8 billion litres of beer a year, making them the fourth largest market for beer consumption in Europe.

And finally, this weekend marks the return of the Gdynia “Aerobaltic” air show after a one year break. This year’s show features more than 300 aircraft from around the world and will include a display by the world renowned Red Arrows display team from the UK. Crowds of up to 750,000 will take part in the event over the weekend and free buses are laid on from the main station in Gdynia to ferry spectators to the event at Gdynia Babie Doły airfield. Tickets can be purchased online at tobilet.pl at a cost of 40 PLN per person or 70 PLN for families.
