The Polish military ended its evacuation efforts in Afganistan yesterday, moments before two deadly terrorist blasts tore through two locations near the airport in Kabul killing 60 civilians and 13 US service members.
Islamic State subsequently claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. The last Polish plane carrying people evacuated from the Afghan capital arrived in Warsaw on Thursday morning. During the last 10 days, a total of 14 planes brought in over 1,300 people to Poland. A spokesman for the government said that „Due to the safety of our troops, consuls and diplomats working in Kabul, we have decided to wrap up the mission”.

Poland’s State owned oil refiner, PKN Orlen has teamed up with the US energy giant General Electric in a partnership to build wind farms in the Baltic sea.
The initiative is part of the Polish governments efforts to make Poland carbon neutral by 2050. In addition to an ongoing project to develop a 1.2 GW facility, PKN Orlen plans to apply for further permits so that its wind farms in the Baltic Sea total 5.9 GW by 2030 and 9-11 GW by 2040, the company said in a statement. The partnership will bring clean energy to Poland as well as attractive jobs, technical know how and new technology.

Poland’s Justyna Kozdryk has won bronze in the women’s 45 kg power-lifting event at the Tokyo Paralympics yesterday.
Kozdryk managed a best lift of 101 kilograms, with 102 kilograms being the silver winning weight and the gold medal competitor lifting 107 kilograms. The win brings the Polish tally of medals on the 2nd day of the competition at the 2020 paralympics to 3-2 bronze and 1 silver medal. In the 2016 Rio Games, Poland won 9 gold, 18 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Police are searching for a man who tried to run over a police officer during a routine traffic speeding check in Gdańsk yesterday.
During the incident, his car damaged one of the cars on Świętokrzyska Street in Gdańsk Ujeścisko. The driver then drove through greenery before abandoning the car and running away on foot.
