Radio Gdansk News in English: Polish President wants to strengthen NATO presence in Eastern Europe

President Andrzej Duda has proposed to further strengthen NATO’s military presence in Eastern Europe.
This is a response to the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, where the regime of Alexander Lukashenko sent thousands of migrants from the Middle East.

The Polish president discussed this subject at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels with NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg. Further sanctions against the regime of Alexander Lukashenko must be planned, including trade sanctions, with the hope that they will not be needed, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in Berlin. After talks with the head of the Polish government, Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that Germany was fully in solidarity with Poland as regards the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. Today, the head of the Polish government is in Great Britain, where a talk with Prime Minister Boris Johnson is scheduled.

The European Medicines Agency has approved the use of Pfizer’s Comirnata vaccines for children between the ages of 5 and 11.

Children of this age will have a different vaccine than that given to adults and with a lower dosage. The drug agency research shows that the vaccine is safe for children. Meanwhile, cases of severe COVID-19 infection in very young people have been observed in all European countries. In addition, as the EMA notes, vaccination of as much of the population as possible is necessary to achieve herd immunity. It is now up to each Member State to decide from when and how vaccines for children will be available.
