The Polish Space Agency (POLSA) and several other Polish aerospace companies recently submitted a joint bid to run a Space Safety project monitoring the skies over Australia.

According to representatives of POLSA, the project is a response to the increasing volume of „space junk” and the threat it poses to active satellites providing essential services such as GPS communications and wireless internet service.

In order to determine the extent of the problem, scientists in Australia will spend several years assessing the number of active and inactive satellites and their remains orbiting the Earth.

The observation data for the project will partially be gathered via a network of instruments belonging to three Polish companies (6ROADS, ITTI, and Sybilla Technologies) and telescopes belonging to the Polish Space Agency.

The companies involved will also be tasked with creating specialized software for collecting and analyzing the data, and at least one Polish scientist will join researchers on the project at the University of Western Australia in Perth.

The Space Safety project is expected to last at least three years, with a decision on funding set to be announced in June of 2022.

Paulo Sousa, the current manager of Poland’s national football team, is reportedly seeking to terminate his contract, according to the head of Poland’s Football Association.

In a post on Twitter yesterday, the head of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, called Sousa’s behavior „extremely irresponsible” and “contrary to the coach’s previous declarations.” Kulesza later explained that he „firmly refused” to accept Sousa’s offer to terminate the contract by mutual agreement.

According to unofficial information, Sousa wants to terminate his contract in Poland to pursue a verbal offer from Flamengo, a top football club in Brazil. The 51-year old Sousa, a former player, and later coach of Leicester, Fiorentina, and Bordeaux, signed on to coach the Polish national men’s team last January.

One of the reasons for Sousa’s departure is said to be the criticism fielded against him in Poland for a lackluster performance over the past year, including a 1-2 loss to Hungary in the team’s final World Cup qualifier in November.

The Polish national team is currently No.23 in worldwide FIFA rankings.

Volunteer firefighters in Świbno had a memorable start to St. Stephen’s Day yesterday after spending the morning saving a deer trapped in the ice of the Martwa Wisła.

The animal was stranded some fifty meters off the coast of Wyspa Sobieszewska and was exhausted by struggling to get to shore. Rescuers in special coldwater gear waded into the water and used an ice board to free the animal. After wrapping the deer in blankets and taking it inside the firehouse to get warm, the animal was released into the forest.
