Today is the 6th day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine after a long simmering dispute between the two countries and a wider dispute between Russia and the West.

Russia has so far made fewer territorial gains that had been expected after it encountered fierce resistance from the Ukrainian side and suffered a number of logistical setbacks including refuelling issues. Russian rockets and missiles, including cluster bombs prohibited by international law fell on some residential quarters of Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities yesterday. Satellite images released by a US company show a Russian military convoy north of Kiev, which stretches for about 64 km. Other imagery shows a smaller convoy currently located in South Belarus. As international sanctions continue to bite, neither side shows any signs of capitulation. A rapidly arranged ceasefire meeting between the two sides yesterday didn’t produce any concrete results.

The Polish Prime Minister spoke with the president of Google yesterday about how to stem the flow of Russian disinformation on the internet in the light of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

The PM said that together with the prime ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, they called on Facebook, Google, YouTube and Twitter to block the official accounts of Russian and Belarusian government institutions, as well as state media and the personal profiles of their leaders in response to the wave preceded by disinformation aggression against Ukraine. Disinformation tends to be rife on all sides during times of war or crises, with a focus during the current crisis on disinformation coming from the Russian side with near global condemnation and extensive sanctions against Russia and exclusion of nearly all areas of Russian life from the wider Western world.

Gdańsk’s road toll operator has said that it will waive fees for Ukrainian registered vehicles to use its section of the A1 toll motorway that runs from Gdańsk to the border of Poland with the Czech Republic in the south of the country.

The gesture is one of many examples of solidarity between the people of Pomerania and the people of Ukraine. The company said that the scheme will be in operation from midnight today until further notice.
