Adam Glapiński, the governor of Poland’s Central Bank (the „NBP”) is again under scrutiny, this time due to huge bonuses paid to him in 2019.
Paweł Mucha, a member of the central bank’s board, has revealed hitherto unpublished information about bonuses paid to the NBP’s chief, Adam Glapiński. In 2019, the Governor awarded himself bonuses the equivalent of 15 monthly salaries in total. At the bottom of the document published by Mucha is Glapiński’s name alone. Mucha comes from the same political milieu as Glapiński (Law and Justice) but has for some time been in conflict with his boss.

The Polish government will allocate the first tranche of European Union post-pandemic recovery funds, worth EUR 7 billion, towards ensuring universal access to broadband internet, conducting thermal overhaul of multi-family dwellings and expanding nursery provision, the minister for EU funds has said.
The minister for EU funds and regional policy said the government would use the grants from Brussels to „eliminate gaps” in universal broadband coverage. The government will ensure access to broadband internet for around a million households in areas where private provision is unprofitable. She added the government would also carry out a „thermal overhaul of some 115,000 flats in multi-family dwellings,” to raise energy efficiency by „at least 30%.” The minister for EU funds and regional policy said the EUR 5 billion in recovery cash from Brussels would also be spent on creating „50,000 new nursery places,” especially „in areas where there is a shortage” of childcare provision,

Polish tennis star lga Świątek was the world’s highest-paid female athlete in 2023, earning USD 23.9 million, according to the „Forbes” magazine.
Świątek, the world no. 1 in women’s tennis, became the top earner thanks to winning the 2023 French Open and WTA Finals, among other titles, as well as landing „four new endorsement deals.”

And finally, an important docking site in the port of Gdańsk is set to receive a PLN 28 million improvement which will increase its transhipment capacity.
The area in question is the Industrial Quay which is located on the right bank of the Inner Port in Gdańsk. The project will see deepening and reinforcement of the bed of the quay to improve the safety of the quay structure, and replacement of the quay fenders will enable servicing larger units. The works will be carried out in stages on sections with a total length of 802 m. The works will start in January and are expected to last 2 years.
