The Polish economy grew by 3.9 percent in the third quarter of this year, the country’s Central Statistical Office have announced this week along with a year-round GDP increase of 4.3%. In addition, Poland had the strongest quarter on quarter growth of all European countries in the last quarter with a figure over four times better than the EU average. Poland’s Central bank chief said last month that the Polish economy was set to lose some of its momentum amid a global slowdown but added the country’s GDP growth would remain solid.
The European Commission last week lowered its forecast for Polish economic growth for this year and next however the Central Statistical Office has revised upward its estimates of Polish GDP growth in the first and second quarters of this year as the economic data became available.
RIGHTEOUS AMONG THE NATIONS HONOURED IN WARSAW
People who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust, who are called Righteous Among the Nations, have been honoured at a ceremony in Warsaw this week.
The event was held to mark the 100th birthday of Józef Walaszczyk, who rescued 53 Jews during World War II and who is the oldest living person to be named a Righteous Among the Nations.
The Righteous award is the highest Israeli civilian distinction granted to non-Jews.
The title has been awarded since 1963 to people who helped Jews suffering Nazi German persecution during the war.
Almost 7,000 Poles have been named Righteous Among the Nations, constituting the largest national group to receive the honour.

If you’re feeling tired of the dull and grey autumn days this next article may be of interest because Ryanair is due to launch a new connection to the Croatian Adriatic coastal city of Zardar next summer. The carrier’s aircraft from Gdansk to the Adriatic will fly three times a week.
This is a new and only regular connection from Gdańsk airport to Croatia. Until now, passengers could fly to Dubrovnik, but only on a charter flight.
In a statement to the press, the CEO of Gdańsk airport said that he hoped that the route will be a very interesting and popular holiday destination for passengers who instead of a long car journey will be able to quickly and comfortably take a plane to the city which is the oldest continuously-inhabited city in Croatia.

WHAT’S ON THIS WEEKEND IN THE TRICITY
· On Saturday at 9pm at the Blues Club in Gdynia, we introduce to you a Tribute to George Michael brought to you by Mateusz Kowalczyk on vocals and guitar with talented backing vocalist, bassist and drummer playing hits such as „Faith”, „Careless Whisper” and „Freedom”. The band has sold out many clubs across the country. Details on https://www.bluesclub.pl/en/concerts.html
· Next up we have playing at the Teatr Muzyczny in Gdynia on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7pm the improvisational play Szalone nożyczki (Crazy Scissors Or shear madness). This is a play with a difference. Set in a unisex hair salon in the city in which it plays. The landlady who lives above the shop is murdered and the audience gets involved in the action by questioning the actors and attempting to solve the crime. The characters include a flamboyant hairdresser and their flirty yet ditzy assistant, along with a prim and proper uptight older lady, and an older man who is a „used antique dealer”. Much of the dialogue is improvised by the actors, and the humour tends to revolve around topical references to current events. The ending of the play is different every night as audience members hear clues, question the characters, and then vote on who they think is guilty. Whoever the audience votes to be the murderer, that person improvises dialogue along with the rest of the cast to reveal themselves. Tickets from 50 to 80zl.
