Poland on Thursday reported a record 27,143 new coronavirus infections, the highest daily figure since the epidemic hit the country in March. The health ministry said 367 more people had died of the virus. Of the new cases confirmed on Thursday, the most – 3,888 – were in the western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań.

The EU’s executive has said it expects the Polish economy to shrink 3.6 percent this year amid a coronavirus pandemic, with only three other countries in the bloc performing better.
The European Commission predicts that only Lithuania, Ireland and Sweden will see a smaller contraction in GDP in 2020. The Commission said in its latest forecast that it expects the Polish economy to rebound in 2021, expanding by 3.3 percent. The Polish economy contracted 8.2 percent in the second quarter of this year, after expanding by 2 percent in the first quarter, according to the country’s Central Statistical Office.

The US presidential election has still not produced a clear winner days after ballots were cast by millions of the 153 million US citizens eligible to vote.
However, it appears that contender Joe Biden is moving closer to victory in the US presidential race as election officials counted votes in the handful of states that will determine the outcome. In Poland the deputy Polish foreign minister says that if the Democratic presidential contender Biden does win the election, he knows that it is in America’s interest to maintain a close alliance with Poland.

The 45th Polish Film Festival which has been held annually since 1974 and currently runs in Gdynia will this year be carried out entirely online.
The Polish Film Festival is one of the oldest film events in Europe which promotes the Polish cinematography on a wide scale. The organizers say that this year’s edition will consist of on-line screenings of films made available on the festival internet platform will take place in virtual cinema halls according to the agreed screening schedule.
The festival platform will also allow audience to watch press conferences with the participation of the creators and access accompanying events such as debates, meetings and webinars. The event runs from December 8th to December 12th.
