Polish President Andrzej Duda has been holding consultations with heads of state of Three Seas countries ahead of a climate summit to be hosted on April 22 by US President Joe Biden. The Polish President is one of 40 world leaders invited to take part in the virtual summit dedicated to the climate crisis.
On Friday, President Duda spoke to the Slovenia and Lithuania’s leaders, mostly focusing on the struggle with COVID-19, as well as security issues in connection to the situation in Ukraine. Further talks are planned early in the week. The Three Seas Initiative is a Polish-led regional drive by European countries between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas.

Poland backs Czech decision to expel Russian diplomats
Poland fully supports Czech Republic decision to expel Russian diplomats over suspicions that Russian intelligence services were involved in a blast at the Czech arms depot in 2014, Poland’s Foreign Ministry has said. The Czech Prime Minister and Polish Deputy Prime Minister said on Saturday that the country expelled 18 Russian embassy staff who had been identified as officers of Russia’s intelligence services. According to the Czech security information service, they were involved in an explosion in a military ammunition depot in 2014, which killed two people.

78th Anniversary of Warsaw Uprising to be commemorated online
A programme of events online over April 18 and 19 has been prepared by POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews for the 78th anniversary of the outbreak of the Uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, which broke out on April 19, 1943 and lasted until May 16, was the first uprising in German Nazi-occupied Europe and the largest act of armed resistance by Jews in World War II. It is estimated that about 13,000 insurgents died in the ghetto during the revolt. It was the first urban insurgency in occupied Europe.
Police using drones and cameras to enforce Covid restrictions in Sopot
And finally, Police in Sopot are stepping up checks to enforce Covid 19 restrictions it is reported on Radio Gdańsk news website. On Saturday more than 100 fines were issued in relation to Covid 19 violations – specifically with respect to failure of people to cover their mouth and nose. The officers use a mobile police station equipped with a camera system and a drone, through which they observe the behaviour of residents and visitors of Sopot. The police also tour the streets and promenades with a loud hailer system that warns people to wear masks.
