There is no risk of radiation exposure in Poland due to the recent shelling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, according to Poland’s Atomic Energy Agency (PAA).
A post on the agency’s Twitter account claims “the PAA is monitoring radiation levels across Poland and has not recorded any alarming readouts by the measuring devices.”
Ukraine’s state nuclear power company Energoatom said on Sunday that a worker was wounded when Russian forces again shelled the Zaporizhzhia plant, the biggest in Europe, on Saturday evening.
Russian troops are accused of placing explosives, missiles, and military equipment at the Enerhodar power plant to shield themselves from Ukrainian attacks, the Polish Radio IAR news agency wrote on Friday. The plant was captured by Russian troops early in March and is currently being operated by Ukrainian staff under Russian supervision.
In a statement released over the weekend, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN’s nuclear watchdog, urged all sides to exercise the “utmost restraint” as the recent shelling poses “the very real risk of a nuclear disaster.”

Four victims of Saturday’s accident involving a Polish coach in Croatia have been transferred to Poland.
The patients were flown to Warsaw’s Okęcie military airport on Saturday night, a government official said shortly after midnight on Sunday. Deputy foreign minister Marcin Przydacz wrote in a Twitter post that those transported to Poland “remain under the care of doctors and psychologists at all times.”
As to the 28 patients still in Croatia, foreign ministry spokesman Łukasz Jasina said that they had been transferred to various hospitals in the region and are currently “all under the care of Polish doctors.”
Twelve people, including the driver, died and over 30 others were injured when a Polish bus slipped off a motorway in northwestern Croatia and crashed into a ditch early Saturday morning.

The Czech rail carrier RegioJet has received approval from Poland’s Office of Rail Transport (UTK) to launch a connection between Prague and Gdynia Główna.
After a year of waiting, the President of UTK granted the Czech carrier open access to the Kraków – Warsaw and Przemyśl – Medyka Mościska routes; and limited access to the Prague – Gdynia route. However, RegioJet was not approved to offer services from Kraków to Trójmiasto due to concerns that passengers would stop using state-subsidized PKP services on the same route.
The 9.5-hour train route from Prague to Gdynia is planned to run through Pardubice, Usti nad Orlicą, Lichkov, Kłodzko, Wrocław, Leszno, Poznań and Bydgoszcz.
The launch of the Gdynia-Prague connection now depends on RegioJet, with the carrier reportedly planning to begin offering the service in December 2022.

After months of searching, the Gdańsk Museum recently announced the winner of a contest to find the oldest postcard in Gdańsk.
The 115-year-old postcard, sent on February 29, 1888, from 22 Kowalska Street in Gdańsk, earned owner Tadeusz Zając a 1000 zł reward and accolades from the Gdańsk Museum.
The former “oldest” postcard, dated July 20, 1889, was part of the “Wanted” exhibition on nineteenth-century postcards recently on display in the Palowa Gallery of the Main Town Hall in Gdańsk.
The exhibition ended on July 31st, but museum officials are encouraging residents to keep searching for even older postcards with the hope of acquiring additional unique postcards for the museum’s collections.
The competition for the oldest postcard will continue until the end of this year. More information can be found on the Gdańsk Museum’s website or by visiting us at radiogdansk.pl
