Poland has taken in almost 8 million refugees from Ukraine since the start of the war
Almost 8 million refugees have crossed from Ukraine into Poland since the start of its war with Russia according to officials. On Thursday, around 22,500 refugees crossed the border into the country according to the Polish Border Guard. On the same day, around 18,000 Ukrainians made the passage back to Ukraine from Poland. A deputy interior minister said in mid-September that Poland was home to some 1.3 million Ukrainian refugees after many who had fled Russia’s invasion decided to return to their country. Poland has enacted measures to offer wide-ranging support to Ukrainians escaping the Russian invasion of their country, which began on February 24. The measure grants them residence rights and ensures access to education, healthcare and social benefits. Seventy-six percent of Poles are in favour of accepting refugees from war-torn Ukraine, according to a recent survey.

Ukraine restores electricity infrastructure after Russian strikes
Ukrainian engineers have restored electricity to most of the country after earlier air-strikes by Russian forces cut power across large parts of Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities say that 70% of electricity distribution has been restored, however they admit that the distribution of electricity is still difficult across the country. The country’s Prime Minister said that “between 200,000 and 400,000 households in each region are left without electricity for a few hours every day”. He also said this week that some 8,500 power generator sets were being imported to Ukraine daily. The World Health Organization warned this week that hundreds of Ukrainian hospitals and healthcare facilities lacked fuel, water and electricity.

Poland to play Saudi Arabia in second World Cup game
Poland are set to play Saudi Arabia today in their second group stage game of the Word Cup in Qatar. The match kicks off at 2 p.m. Polish time at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan near Doha. Poland tied 0-0 with Mexico in their first game at the World Cup in Qatar on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia are the early leaders of Group C containing Poland after a shock 2-1 win over Argentina.

Ukrainian teachers in Gdańsk complete Polish language course
And finally, 116 teachers from Ukraine have completed a Polish language course in Gdańsk allowing them to teach their chosen subjects in Polish schools. The course was arranged by the Pomeranian Center for Teacher Education, based in Gdańsk. The teachers are now certified to be able teach their chosen subjects using the Polish language at B1 and B2 levels. The teachers will work alongside their Polish colleagues in assisting them to deliver lessons. In addition to learning Polish to the required level, the teachers also got acquainted with the intricacies of the Polish education system.
