Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has renewed pleas to Western allies for more powerful weapons to help protect Ukraine’s cities and infrastructure from Russian attacks.
In his nightly address last Sunday, Zelensky argued that Ukraine needed long-range missiles and weaponry like the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) to help it defend itself against Russia.
He specifically referenced an attack over the weekend that killed three people and injured 14 in the eastern city of Kostiantynivka, saying, „it would be possible to stop this Russian terror if we had adequate missile forces in our army”.

The Polish economy grew by 4.9 percent in 2022, according to a preliminary estimate released by GUS, Poland’s state-run statistical agency.
The estimate was 0.1 percentage point higher than expected by analysts, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
According to the preliminary estimate GUS posted on Twitter, the increase of Poland’s real gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022 was 4.9% compared to 2021, a year that saw Poland’s GDP increase by 6.8%.
A Polish deputy finance minister has said that 2023 “will be a difficult year” for the country’s public finances but added that “there are grounds for cautious optimism.”
Poland’s central bank in November predicted that the country’s GDP would grow 0.7 percent in 2023.

The first building permit for the construction of the Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm was issued last week, according to announcements posted yesterday on social media by PKN Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek.
According to Obajtek’s post, a January 26, 2023, decision by the voivodeship of Pomerania approved “the land development design and the architectural and construction design” of the project and granted a building permit to connect the Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm to the national power system “in the Choczewo commune in the Wejherowo poviat.”
The permit is the first of several required for the construction of the onshore part of the project, which Obajtek claims is set to begin sometime in 2024. The planned facility will be located approximately 23 km (14 miles) from the coastline, at the level of the commune of Choczewo and the municipal commune of Łeba.
Once completed, the wind farm will reportedly have the capacity to generate up to 1.2 GW, with the ability to supply clean energy to more than 1.5 million households.

Gdańsk native Radosław Michalski was recently appointed to work with the Polish national football team by Polish Football Association (PZPN) President Cezary Kulesza.
Among other responsibilities, Michalski will reportedly supervise training camps for the team and serve as a liaison between players and staff members. He is set to meet with Kulesza and the team’s new coach, Fernando Santos, in the coming days.
The appointment was reportedly made in response to various staff-related conflicts that arose during the tenure of the last manager, Czesław Michniewicz.
Michnewicz led Poland’s national team for less than a year, with some success despite his short tenure. Under his leadership, the team kept its position in the highest division of the UEFA Nations League and made it out of the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar for the first time since 1986.
However, Michniewicz’s style of play, the general atmosphere on the team, and a scandal over the distribution of bonuses reportedly led to his contract not being renewed.
