Russia continued its nightly pattern of air attacks across Ukraine Thursday night, with Ukrainian air defenses claiming to have shot down more than 30 drones and missiles as of this morning.
The latest attack follows a series of deadly airstrikes over the past week. Overnight on Thursday, Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with a wave of ballistic missiles, killing three people, including a child, and injuring twelve others.
In a statement released yesterday, police in Kyiv described the victims as “a 33-year-old woman and a 34-year-old mother with her 11-year-old daughter.” The trio reportedly “died as a result of the shelling of a medical facility in the Desnianskyi district” after they could not access a shelter due to it being locked.
In his nightly address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the potential failure of local authorities, and police are investigating the matter.
As reported in Reuters, UN human rights monitors in Ukraine issued a statement on June 1, International Children’s Day, claiming that 525 children have been killed since the start of the invasion.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has confirmed that Poland will join other countries to help train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
Morawiecki spoke during a visit to Moldova, where he took part in a summit of the European Political Community (EPC) on Thursday. He was joined by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and 45 other European leaders, including UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Morawiecki told reporters afterward that the group of 47 leaders held “in-depth talks” on topics concerning Europe’s security architecture amid “the threat from Russia.”
Most notably, Morawiecki reported that the group had “agreed on a timetable” to train Ukrainian pilots on American-made F-16 fighter jets. While claiming Poland has “too few” of its own F-16s to transfer any of them to Ukraine, Morawiecki stressed that Warsaw was already supplying Kyiv with MiG-29 jets.
During the meeting, Morawiecki also urged European partners “to share their US-made Patriot air defense systems with Ukraine as soon as possible” to help Kyiv fight the Russian invasion.

Polish tennis star Iga Świątek cruised into the third round of the French Open after a straight-set win over American Claire Liu in Paris yesterday.
The Polish world No. 1 and defending Roland Garros champion ousted the 102nd-ranked American player 6-4, 6-0 in the second round of the women’s singles on Thursday. Świątek, who celebrated her 22nd birthday on Wednesday, will face 65th-ranked Wang Xinyu of China on Saturday.
Fellow Pole Hubert Hurkacz also advanced to the third round of the men’s singles competition of the French Open and is set to face Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas today at 15:35.
In the doubles competition, Jan Zieliński and his partner Hugo Nys of Monaco have also advanced to the second round at the French Open and will face the Brazilian-Australian pairing of Marcelo Melo and John Peers today at 12:15.
Last month, Zieliński and Nys won the men’s doubles at the Italian Open clay-court tournament in Rome.

Radio Gdańsk invites listeners to celebrate Children’s Day this weekend at the Gdańsk Zoo in Oliwa.
Radio Gdańsk joined the Gdańsk Zoo, the Independent Self-Governing Police Union, and Energa Obrót Grupa Orlen, to organize a family festival at the zoo this Saturday, June 3, from 10:00 to 15:00.
The festival will feature a variety of family-oriented entertainment, including music and dance bands, prize competitions, face painting, first aid demonstrations, and a car show with fire and police vehicles.
Free tickets to the zoo will be given away on air on Radio Gdańsk during the “Hour of Joy” coming up just after the news at noon.
