According to Zbigniew Rau, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the proposals in the so-called Migration Pact reject two guiding principles that Poland has adhered to for many years, namely the principle of voluntariness on the part of migrants and receiving nations.
The Foreign Ministers of Poland and Sweden have conducted political consultations in Warsaw, with Sweden’s entry into NATO and support for Ukraine being their main topics.
In their assessment, the proposed legislative measures would not solve the current migration situation in the EU but will only complicate the existing system, and the relocations themselves will act as a factor attracting additional migration – according to the Polish Minister.
He pointed out that throughout the Russian invasion of Ukraine, approximately 11 million people have crossed the Polish border. Poland has also allocated over 2% of its GDP to aid Ukrainians.
According to Rau, the so-called Migration Pact is “an incomprehensible project for the overwhelming majority of Polish society.” In the same statement he said that the project also rejects the principle of democratic decision-making by states about their future.

An exhibition of work by Chinese artist and campaigner Badiucao will go ahead at Warsaw’s Centre for Contemporary Art on Friday, as planned, despite demands from China’s embassy that the event be cancelled.
The art centre’s Director Piotr Bernatowicz yesterday received a high-ranking official from China’s embassy, who demanded that the art show be called off. He made clear to the Chinese official that cancelling the exhibition would amount to preventative censorship, which was unacceptable. Bernatowicz made it clear to the Chinese diplomat that the show would “go ahead as scheduled”.
The exhibition by Badiucao is titled Tell China’s Story Well, a reference to China’s public diplomacy strategy, which encourages communist party-controlled media, as well as quasi-private actors, to promote official Chinese views and opinions and thus strengthen the country’s international influence.
Born in 1986, Badiucao is one of China’s most acclaimed political cartoonists, artists and human rights activists. Badiucao is in fact a pen name; the artist, who is based in Australia, adopted it to protect his identity.

The Polish endurance motor racing team Inter Europol Competition, with Jakub Śmiechowski as one of their three drivers, emerged victorious in the LMP2 category of this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Belgian team WRT, featuring Robert Kubica as one of their drivers, secured second position in the same category. In the main Le Mans classification, the Ferrari Afcorse team came in first position.
The Inter Europol Competition lineup consisted of Śmiechowski, Swiss driver Fabio Scherer, and Spaniard Albert Costa. In the WRT team, alongside Kubica, were Swiss driver Louis Deletraz and Portuguese driver Rui Andrade.
For the first time in the 100-year history of Le Mans, two Polish drivers stood on the same podium, and the Inter Europol Competition became the first Polish team to win this world renowned race, and within motorsport one of the most prestigious events in the calendar.
