The Polish army is well equipped to protect Polish airspace according to the country’s defence minister.
He made the declaration at a military drill in northern Poland on Thursday. The defence minister watched Polish soldiers test-fire the country’s new-generation short-range air defence system, according to officials. He told reporters at a training area in the northern town of Ustka: “The Polish Army is well-equipped to effectively protect Polish skies against air threats. The biggest challenge is posed not by aircraft, but by cruise rockets and drones.”

A festival to celebrate the ties between Poland and Shakespeare is being held this weekend in the UK.
The festival is taking place in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of the iconic playwright William Shakespeare and celebrates Poland’s particular affinity and fascination with Shakespeare and his work as well as the cultural connections between Poland and Britain, while at the same time aiming to promote Polish heritage. Saturday’s programme includes a family-friendly picnic featuring an array of interactive and engaging nature-themed activities inspired by the shared love of the natural world by both Shakespeare and Renaissance Polish poet Jan Kochanowski, who was the Bard’s contemporary. Gdańsk itself is home to the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre which is built on the site of a 17th-century theatre where English travelling players performed works of English Renaissance theatre.

A Polish climber has claimed third place in an international speed climbing competition.
Marcin Dzieński took the bronze in the men’s speed climbing event at the European Games on home soil on Friday. The 30-year-old reached the top of a 15-metre wall in 5.46 seconds in the final race to finish behind Austria’s gold medal winner and a French runner-up. A day earlier, Poland’s Natalia Kałucka won the women’s speed climbing in the southern Polish city of Tarnów, while countrywoman Aleksandra Mirosław finished runner-up in the competition. A total of 370 Polish athletes, 188 men and 182 women, are vying for medals at the 3rd European Games, which opened in the historic Polish city of Kraków on Wednesday and run until July 2nd.

And finally, this week has seen the third edition of the Maritime Forum event which is hosted by Radio Gdańsk.
The forum has become an important fixture in the maritime calendar of the region and beyond and is supported by the Polish Prime Minister who noted the importance of the event in a letter sent to the event organizers. Several topics have been discussed during panel events including how Pomerania is becoming Poland’s second energy hub after Silesia, the possibilities of energy storage, challenges for the safety of the maritime industry and ways to clean up the Baltic Sea.
