Poland will veto the EU’s proposed migrant policy, according to the country’s Prime Minister as it includes „mandatory relocation” of migrants among the bloc’s member states and is ”a strategic mistake”.
The prime minister was speaking ahead of a two-day summit of the European Council, which began in Brussels, Belgium, yesterday. The prime minister told reporters that “Poland’s position on migration policy is clear.” On June 8th, EU interior ministers reached an agreement on a plan to overhaul the bloc’s asylum and migration procedures. Under the proposed migration package, EU countries would be bound by “mandatory solidarity” in migration policy, while having flexibility “as regards the choice of the individual contributions,” from admitting relocated migrants to making financial contributions.

A Polish scientist is set to become the 2nd Pole to go into space. Sławosz Uznański will fly into space on a European Space Agency mission.
Uznański, who works for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) Control Centre in Geneva, Switzerland, was selected to join the ESA’s Astronaut Reserve in November, out of over 22,000 candidates. He has written a book on radiation effects in electronic circuits and co-authored more than 50 scientific papers, according to officials. His research interests focus on the impact of space radiation on humans. The announcement marks 45 years since the first Pole, Mirosław Hermaszewski, flew to space.

Polish Muslims are celebrating the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice, known as Eid al-Adha, one of the two main Muslim religious celebrations.
The four-day holiday is a time for prayers and meetings with loved ones. Most Polish Muslims live in the country’s eastern Podlaskie region. There, special morning prayers will be taking place at the historic mosques in Bohoniki and Kruszyniany, the last two historic mosques in Poland, with mizars, or Muslim cemeteries, next to them. In addition, celebrations will be held at the mosque in the regional capital Białystok.

And finally, a 7-year-old boy was dramatically rescued after he fell from a ferry sailing from Gdynia to Karlskrona in Sweden yesterday.
The incident happened at around 4pm around 100 kilometres off the coast of Poland in the Baltic Sea. The vessel sent a mayday signal after the child fell into the water and a woman jumped in the water to save him. A rescue helicopter was scrambled from the Polish side and the rescue effort was co-ordinated by Swedish authorities. Both victims were sent to a hospital in Sweden for observation and are thought to be recovering well.
