Poland will deploy five hundred police officers to its border with Belarus, the country’s Interior Minister has said. „Due to the tense situation on the border with Belarus I have decided to bolster our forces with five hundred Polish police officers from riot and counter-terrorism units,” Mariusz Kamiński announced yesterday. They will join 5,000 border guards and 2,000 soldiers guarding the security of that border.
The Polish Border Guard has reported that a total of 187 people tried to cross into Poland from Belarus illegally on Saturday of this past weekend.
On Friday Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukrainian state services are meticulously scrutinising the intelligence pertaining to the military deployment of Wagner group units in neighbouring Belarus. He added he had also taken action to enhance security at the country’s border with Belarus.
This year alone, Poland’s Border Guard has documented over 12,000 attempts of illegal border crossings. Today is day 495 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

France riots continue as questions are raised about the state of the French police and the inability of consecutive governments to reform the institution
The killing of a teenager by a police officer last week and the riots that have ensued since have revived long-standing questions about the state of the French police force. Although tensions have cooled somewhat over the last 48 hours as authorities try to contain the fallout from the killing, the events have revived the debate about social inequality and racism in France.
Last night, President Emmanuel Macron met with ministers and security officials at the emergency crisis centre of the Interior Ministry to discuss the situation across the country.
45,000 police officers have been deployed across the country to try and quell protests which have been going on now for five consecutive evenings.
Emmanuel Macron was supposed to be in Germany on a state visit yesterday, but had to postpone it because of the turmoil across France. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says that while he’s concerned, he believes Macron will be able to manage the situation.

The Open’er Festival 2023 has ended without serious incident, according to police
The Pomeranian police have announced reassuringly that this year’s Open’er Festival ran peacefully. According to the organizers of the event, tens of thousands of revellers attended the event each day. Acts who played this year included Arctic Monkeys, Kendrick Lamar, Christine and the Queens, Paolo Nutini, Labrinth and Queens of the Stone Age.
Over the four days of the now internationally famous Gdynia music festival, police officers checked over 1,400 people. 21 were detained, most commonly for possession of drugs and consumption of alcohol in prohibited areas. One of the attendees will be held responsible for illegal drone flights in the prohibited zone. 59 people were fined.

Poland ends European Games with another gold medal
Poland will end its participation in the European Games held this year in Kraków with a total of 13 golds, 19 silver and 18 bronze medals. In terms of total medals won over the course of the games Poland finished in the national rankings in 6th place with 50 medals, the winners Italy taking home an impressive 100 medals.
Kickboxer Robert Krasoń won the thirteenth and final gold medal for Poland yesterday in a fight with Spain’s Mohammed Hamdi Hajji in the final of the men’s 86kg full contact category.
